Sex tech has come a long way in recent years — the Lovense Lush 4 , a new take on the rabbit from Hera, and the TikTok-approved rose clitoral suction stimulator, to name just a few of our fave innovations.

I’m always lusting over the latest sex toy tech to splurge on, and nothing says hot high-end moments like what’s coming out of LELO. The sexual wellness brand has become famous for its range of aesthetically pleasing, pioneering sex toys.

So, naturally, when I caught wind of their latest innovation — the LELO DOT — I was intrigued.

Although it’s called the DOT, the vibrator is actually more tear-dropped in shape, with a bulbous base tapering out into a thin, curved point. The DOT is not designed to be inserted though…. it’s an innovative kind of clitoral stimulator (sitting nicely alongside existing clitoral vibrators they offer like SONA 2 and SILA) and is made using what the brand calls Infinite™ Loop Technology.

What that means is, by using an elliptical motion rather than a circular movement like traditional vibrators, the focus is on stimulating the erogenous zones — the clit is queen, people.

The pinpoint tip (probs why it's called the DOT) is meant to guide anyone with a vulva to discover some fun and different ways of self-pleasuring that centre around the clit — again, and again… and again. It’s waterproof too, and made with premium silicone (checking the body-safe box). The soft, bendable tapered end ensues the magic.

LELO says the DOT was inspired by a study that the brand undertook on orgasms. The results showed that for women and people with vulvas, feeling relaxed (34%) was the most important factor when it came to helping them orgasm during sex or masturbation, followed by foreplay (33%), touching other body parts (25%) and sex toys (24%). The DOT addresses these wants, and offers “unmatched” precision for orgasms.

Frankly, I was excited to put this precise promise to the test.

How to use the LELO DOT

This is where it's up to you, dear friends, to get creative. First things first — charge the LELO DOT to avoid the disappointment of having it run out mid-session.

Once your new toy is charged (it takes up to two hours) and ready to go, slather the tip in your favourite lube. The DOT is made of silicone, so water-based lube is the best option (fun fact: silicone toys can't be used with silicone or oil-based lube, as these break down the material — making it less safe to use and harder to clean over time).

We recommend LELO's own personal moisturiser, or if you're looking for a more affordable, everyday option, Liquid Silk, which is currently available on Lovehoney.

While the LELO DOT is a clitoral vibrator, that doesn't mean your masturbation session has to start with the C-spot. Trail the toy over your nipples, lips, behind your ear, or your preferred erogenous zones to warm up, before leading the toy down to your vulva.

Plus, this toy is an interesting shape if ever we've seen one — so use that to your advantage! Try using the length of the toy for less extreme stimulation, before slowly working your way up through the settings, to using the tip.

Warning: the precise tip on the DOT is no joke, so if you're looking to reach orgasm be prepared to reach your final destination, um, promptly (but there's nothing to dictate that this has to be the goal, ever!).

Should you want not only multiple but blended orgasms, you could also combine this toy with an internal toy like a dildo or G-spot vibrator for some variation. Woah, girl.

How we tested the LELO DOT

After hearing rave review after rave review of the LELO DOT, our sex writer (a cis woman) finally got her chance to test it out. Over multiple masturbation sessions, she tested each setting — several times each.

First impressions

The DOT is available in three colours: pink, aqua, and lilac — I chose the pink. I’ve picked up some LELO toys before and they always arrive beautifully — and discreetly — packaged in a sleek black box, and the DOT was no exception. It arrived with a USB charger, LELO water-based personal moisturiser, and a storage bag (travel-friendly toys is a big plus for me).

It didn’t arrive fully charged, and I didn’t want any interruptions, so there was a bit of a delay in getting into it. Once the battery was full, I slathered a generous amount of lube on the tip to reduce friction, and with a simple click of button, it whirred into motion.

You know I had to do a sound check. There’s eight different levels of vibration to choose from, with varying intensities — the lower vibes were whisper-quiet, yet, as I built up to the higher ones, there was a definite low rumble. It’s not at neighbour-disturbing noise levels, but you might want to use a blanket as a sound buffer or ensure some alone-at-home time if you’re self-conscious of roommates or family members hearing you get off.

Getting started

Since all the power is focused into the tip, the sensation was super concentrated even on the lowest setting. Though a thrilling surprise for me, it could be too much for people not used to that kind of intensity. But the range is perfect for edging and orgasm control. Once I got over the exxxtra vibes (and applied some more lube to avoid any chafing), I was in pure bliss.

I've tried enough sex toys to know that putting something that intense straight on my clit will send me immediately to O-town, so I decided to trail it over my nipples, stomach, and in between my thighs before heading directly down south. Even on other erogenous zones with fewer nerve endings, the DOT was extremely powerful and (Carrie Bradshaw voice) I couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like on my vulva.

After teasing myself for as long as I could possibly hold off for, I moved it down to my vulva. What started as wide motions around my labia majora, turned into smaller and smaller circles around my clit and urethra (AKA the U-spot — which you should get to know if you don't already...).

Going deeper

As I felt the pressure build inside me, I got imaginative with different pressures and settings. My favourites had to be the pulses: short, sharp and sweet notes sending shockwaves through my clit, especially when I turned the toy to the side for broader coverage. The full-body jolts were real! I climaxed quicker than I expected — I found placing the pinpoint tip directly onto the clit on the brink of climaxing gave a full, powerful orgasm.

Thankfully, one complete charging session can give you two hours of fun, so I really got to experiment in other sessions. I even gave some underappreciated spots more love — who would’ve thought trailing a vibe against your inner wrist could be such a turn on? The sexy build-up and rollbacks led to some epic, back-to-back orgasms.

The verdict

While, at first, I wasn't sure just eight settings would be enough to keep me coming back to this toy for more, sure enough I found myself reaching for it as a staple clit vibrator when I felt like something simple.

IMO, the DOT is as much a solo star as it is a couples or team player. It’s definitely a great pick for a beginner toy, as it practically demands that you experiment and find a rhythm you enjoy. I wish we could all experience clitoral orgasms — they’re unreal.

Seasoned sex-toy lovers will love the DOT too for the variety and tactical ways you can change the pace of your session or foreplay, a sensual massage session or non-penetrative sex.

It is a little on the pricey side, retailing at £159, but there are also some ah-mazing and more affordable clitoral stimulators on the market, too, like the Satisfyer Twirling Pro Connect.

I’d recommend taking the plunge though. The LELO DOT is my new BFF – me and all 8,000 nerve endings on my clit — in the bedroom and beyond. It even comes in a travel-sized version — which I will be purchasing to throw in my carry-on (and I think it could make a better addition to partnered sex than the full-sized version).
